OCTOBER 18: Candidate Assessment through the Lens of Interculturality Workshop

This one day workshop, Candidate Assessment through the Lens of Interculturality, aims to equip participants with the skills to assess applicants for admission with cultural sensitivity, acknowledging the socio-economic factors and generational trauma that affect discerners and vowed members today. It addresses the impact of these factors on health and behaviors, such as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and heart disease. The workshop emphasizes the importance of respectful information gathering, avoiding stereotypes, generalizations, and minimizing behaviors that could challenge community life. Additionally, it explores how different cultures express psychopathology and the challenges of serious mental health issues that may preclude admission to communal life. Participants will learn to identify blind spots, microaggressions, and implicit biases in interviews, enhancing their ability to assess all aspects of an applicant’s identity and culture. They are encouraged to bring questions and insights to facilitate learning and unlearning effective interview techniques.

Please note this one-day is offered in three locations. This registration is ONLY for the October 18, 2025 workshop in Chicago, IL. Overnight accommodations are not included. Workshop fees include materials, speaker stipends, facility fees, and lunch.

Note: NRVC members can register members of their religious institute who are attending together at the Member rate. When you click to check-out, indicate their names in the Comment section. Many thanks!
